the story behind the team

The story of Smyrlis Racing begins in 1990, when Dimitrios Smyrlis founds the bodywork and paint shop DS-Autoservice. His son Ioannis discovers his passion for cars early on. At the age of 11, Ioannis sits in a kart for the first time and from then on has a new hobby. In 2001, Ioannis Smyrlis works as a promotion driver for the Nissan 350Z. Smyrlis Racing is finally founded in 2007. Smyrlis Racing competes in various national slalom events and the motorsport adventure begins.

2010

The first successes

In 2010, Ioannis takes over his father's company. At the same time, Smyrlis Racing conquers the Nürburgring and the Nordschleife. Together with Christopher Rink, Ioannis competes in the RCN. The two share a long-standing friendship and are still successful together on the race track to this day. In the DMV BMW Challenge, Smyrlis Racing celebrates its first successes. The weapon of choice is a beast of a race car: a BMW E30 V8 with 5.0 litres of displacement. It delivers the first class wins and championship titles.
2016-2021

victory at the 24h nürburgring

From 2016, Ioannis returns to the Nordschleife and races for Adrenalin Motorsport in the VLN. In a Porsche Cayman he even wins class V5 at the 24h race at the Nürburgring in 2018. Outings as a development driver for the Audi R8 GT4 follow. Ioannis also takes a class win at the 24h race in Dubai. Here too, he lines up together with Christopher Rink. As a guest starter, Ioannis competes in the Nascar Whelen Euro Series at Hockenheim against drivers such as Jacques Villeneuve, Alon Day and Ellen Löhr. He takes victory in the Challenger classification and to this day remains the only guest starter to win his very first race. In 2021, Ioannis wins the 24h race at the Nürburgring once again. In a Porsche run by Mathol Racing he takes victory in class V6.
2016-2021

champion in the bmw 318 ti cup

Since 2016, Ioannis has also been competing in the DMV BMW 318ti Cup. He always races for the win and becomes overall champion in 2018. Since 2019, he has been competing in the DMV BMW 318ti Cup with his own team, Smyrlis Racing. With up to 7 cars, Smyrlis Racing is the biggest team in the entire field. The year 2020 turns out completely differently than expected. Smyrlis Racing seizes the opportunity and moves into sim racing. Right on its debut in the Virtual BMW Cup, Smyrlis Racing wins both the drivers' classification and the team classification. In 2021, Ioannis also competes in the DMV Classic Masters with a BMW 318ti. There he fights for the win in every race and secures the title of overall champion at the end of the season.
2023

Another triumph at the 24h Nürburgring

After winning class V6 in 2021, Ioannis Smyrlis returned with his own team in the SP4T class. This time the drivers were Ioannis Smyrlis, Christopher Rink, Guido Heinrich and Fabian Peitzmeier. Together they threw themselves into the Green Hell and emerged as winners of the SP4T class.
